  • ROSE HILL—For several innings, it seemed like Augusta's softball team would have to win its closest contest of the season.
The Orioles, who already had blasted Rose Hill 15-1 in the opener of Friday's doubleheader, only managed one run through five innings of Game 2.
As they have proven all season, though, the Orioles' bats are hard to keep quiet all game long.
Katy Nordman started the sixth with a stand-up double, Jenna Lynch later got the scoring started with an RBI single, and the Orioles finally put together several big hits to open up the game. Augusta added five runs in the final two innings for a 6-0 victory to complete the sweep. With the win, the Orioles improve to 10-0 on the season, scoring double digits in 8 of those 10 games.
Megan Hayes pitched her best game of the season in the nightcap. She only allowed two hits and one walk and struck out seven Rocket batters. She got a complete-game shutout win for a performance she needed to get back on track.
Kalie Robinson broke the scoreless tie in the third inning. She got on base with a double, then scored on a Rose Hill error after the following at-bat by Brooke Eberhardt. Robinson finished 2-for-4 for the game and 4-for-7 with five runs and an RBI on the day.
Augusta jumped out early against Rose Hill in the opener. The Orioles scored three runs in the first and three in the third before Rose Hill's Shanae Strate hit a solo shot to get the Rockets on the scoreboard.
That was all Rose Hill managed against Eberhardt. She finished with seven strikeouts and allowed just three hits, one walk and that lone run for the win.
Augusta pieced together 11 hits, the biggest of which came courtesy of Nordman. With the bases loaded, she smoked a pitch deep over the left-center field wall for a grand slam early in the seventh inning. It was the second home run of the week for Nordman, who has been on a tear the past six games for the Orioles. She finished Game 1 2-for-3 with a walk, a triple, three runs and a whopping six RBIs.
Casady Marlnee was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Eberhardt was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Abby Tipton had a double and two RBIs.
n Augusta's JV team had its closest game of the year in the opener against Rose Hill, but still pulled off a 2-1 win. The Orioles took control in Game 2 on way to a 15-1 victory. Carly Sears hit a three-run homer, Lauren Fernz had a triple and Madison Marcotte had a double all as part of the fourth inning of Game 2 for the Orioles.
