  • The Butler Community College Theatre Department will be presenting “Dames at Sea” for their spring production this weekend.
The production is a musical parody of large, flashy, 1930s Busby-Berkeley style movie musicals in which an understudy steps into a role on Broadway and becomes a star.
It originally played Off-Off Broadway in 1966 starring newcomer Bernadette Peters and then played Off-Broadway in 1968. In that year it won the Outer Critics Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical. Act I takes place on a Broadway theatre, while Act II moves to a battleship.
The cast is made up of Jennie Hughes as Mona Kent, Grace Burks as Joan, Logan Wohlford as Hennesey, Stacy Farthing as Ruby, Sam Warner as Dick, Cameron Ward as Lucky and Ronny Frias as The Captain. The chorus girls are made up of Kelsey Clark, Ashley Cofer, Brittany Harris, Ellie Labes, Gracie Latas, Sydney Potvin, April Richardson and Alyssa RIvera. The sailors include Larry Berry, Emmanuel Cockrell, Jordan Dusenbury, Brandon Hespe, T.J. LaViolette and Tyler Riffel.
The musicians include: Matt Udland as the conductor; Helen Griffin on piano I and as the rehearsal accompanist, Joel Knudsun on piano II and Lukas Weber on percussion.
The crew is made up of Athur Reese on light board; James Hayes and Brock Penniston on follow spots; Valerie Grey, Evan Unruh and Ewrin Navarijo on deck crew; and Melanie Calvery on stage manager.
They will present the show at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and at 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday.
