LEON—Belle Plaine got an extra-inning, go-ahead run to top Bluestem’s baseball team 3-2 in the nightcap of Monday’s doubleheader in Leon. The Lions settled for a split after beating the Blue Dragon 5-1 in the opener.

The Lions scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning of Game 1. Cody Easterday picked up the win on the mound after pitching six shutout innings. He had nine strikeouts and allowed just one walk.

Bluestem scored a run in the first inning of Game 2, but Belle Plaine tied the game in the top of the second. The Lions regained the lead in the bottom of the inning, but Belle Plain scored a run in the fourth and eighth to pull off the win. The Blue Dragons had seven hits to the Lions’ three.

Bluestem is 6-2 on the season.
