In individual track events, Fiona Masai qualified in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:48.39. In the 400-meter hurdles, Andrene Wells hit under the qualifying mark at 1:07.52.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Carole Idolphine, Cydnie Brown, Nhaieemah Horne and Remona Burchell also qualified for nationals with a time of 48.06 seconds.

The Grizzlies also had a pair of first-place finishes, along with an improved qualifying time. First-place honors were Remona Burchell in the 200 meters and the 4x800-meter relay team of Abiane Collymore, Fiona Masai, Jonelle Reinert and Nhaieemah Horne. Idolphine improved her time in the 400-meter hurdles by just over two seconds.

 Carson qualifies for nationals in 400m hurdles

Freshman Paris Carson qualified for nationals in the 400-meter hurdle event Saturday at the Emporia State Relays.

Carson finished behind teammate Alfred Larry to qualify with a time of 48.34 seconds, while Larry improved on his qualifying mark with a 47.32 time.

In field events, sophomore Alex Gardinier improved on his national qualifying mark in the javelin with a throw of 188 feet, 4 inches. Gardinier's previous best (178 feet, 1 inch) came last week at the Cowley Tiger Invitational.
