  • A young Mustang track and field team opened their season on the road at Oxford.
    “We have all freshman on the track team this year. The next few years will be building years, but the freshman that we have are very competitive so they will be placing at meets this year,” said Flinthills head coach Judy McCollum.
    The Mustangs’ Lauren Doll took first in the 100m dash and took second in High Jump and second in Long Jump.
    AJ Kennedy claimed 9th place in the 100m dash, tied for 8th in the High Jump and finished 12th in the Triple Jump.
    Kevin Merwin finished 14th in 800m run and 15th in the 1600m run.
    Erik Eisenbarth claimed 10th place in the 300 intermediate hurdles and 17th place in the 800m run.
    Carter Garbs took 14th place in the Shot Put.
    “Many of our athletes had personal bests in their events. They are all excited about track, and they work hard each day. I am very proud of their places at their first high school meet,” said McCollum.
    On Tuesday the Mustangs competed at the West Elk Meet.
    Lauren Doll again took 1st in 100m dash, and won the 200m dash and took 3rd in the High Jump.
    Doll qualified for regionals in all three events at this meet.
    AJ Kennedy claimed 5th place in the 100m dash, and tied for 5th in the High Jump, and was part of the 4 X 100m team that placed 5th overall.
    Erik Eisenbarth helped the 4 X 100m team to a 5th place finish.
    Kevin Merwin took 5th in the 3200m and was on the 4 X 100m team that placed 5th.
    Carter Garbs helped the Mustatgs place 5th in the 4 X 100m.
