Officers reported a private security officer said he was handling his firearm while on duty and it accidentally discharged while he was in the office area. Officers observed damage to a computer, some furniture and through the walls separating the office from a computer and media room.
The investigation revealed that an 18-year-old college student sustained a minor injury as the student was working at a computer in the adjacent media room when the pistol was discharged. The injury did not require immediate emergency treatment.
The officer may face possible charges related to aggravated battery and reckless bodily harm. The investigation continues and the officer was questioned and released pending the county attorney reviewing the case.
