The Bluestem Lions continued their road trip on Monday vistiting host Chaparral.
The Lions dropped their first contest of the season in their first game against Chaparral wasting a solid pitching effort from Cody Easterday in the 4-0 shut out loss.
“We left too many runners in scoring position early in the game. I was disappointed in our effort to make a play. We are better than we produced in this game,” said Bluestem head coach Mark Womacks.
The Lions had only 3 hits and conceded 4 errors in the ball game.
Easterday went 5.2 innings scattering 6 hits and striking out 9, allowing only 1 walk and no earned runs. Cooper Minnick went 1/3 of inning with a strike out.
The Lions bounced back in game two to win 4-2 behind a solid pitching performance from John Stiger.
Stiger went 6.2 innings, scattering 4 hits, and two walks while striking out 5. Nick Saia went the remain third with a strike out.
“Great energy in this game. I was impressed with how we responded following Game 1's issues,” said Womacks.
At the plate Cooper Minnick went 2-4 and Lane Moran was 1-3 with 2 rbi.
