Frances M. Hurd, 92, died April 1, 2013 in El Dorado. Services were held Thursday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. Burial followed the services in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.
Frances was born to William Francis and Mable Frances Counter on July 4, 1920 in El Dorado. She graduated from Cassoday schools. Her family remembers her saying she walked two miles to school and to Chelsea Church and Sunday school. She was married to Kenneth Hurd on Sept. 10, 1937 at the First Baptist Church in El Dorado. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as president and 20 years as secretary. She volunteered on the American Red Cross Bloodmobile. She was a devoted seamstress and loved to cook. Frances was a caregiver and she helped many family and friends in need .She loved her garden and feeding and watching the birds in the back yard.
Surviving family include one son, Jim and wife Mary Ann Hurd of Valdosta, Ga.; brothers, Donald (Leota) Counter of Wichita, Louis (Betty) Counter of Colorado, Shirley Hurd and JoAnn Kennedy both of El Dorado; grandchildren, Lisa Hurd and Mark (Becky) Hurd of Wichita, Shelly (Jerry) Hill, Stacy (Chad) Neumayer, Travis (Sarah) Hurd, Edward (Christine Hurd; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 1996; one daughter, Janis Kae Hurd; brother, George Counter; and sisters, Mary Lou Rowells, Louise Kinney, Norma L. Davis, Betty Jean, and Ethel Marie Counter.
