  • The residents of El Dorado gave strong support of continuing the one-cent sales tax.
    The question of whether to continue the sales tax for another five years was on the ballot Tuesday in the general election.
    Of the voters, 1,606 or 84.35 percent supported continuing the sales tax, with only 298 voting against it.
    The first $600,000 is allotted for streets. Next. $1.35 million or 16.8 mills goes toward property tax relief, then $50,000 is set aside for economic development.
    From any additional money after that past commissions have allocated sales tax dollars for additional property tax relief up to 3.49 mills.
    Other funds have gone for such things as the water park, bike paths, press box at McDonald Stadium, softball diamonds, sidewalks on North Main and more.
