  • The Bluestem Lions baseball team opened their season on the road Thursday at Belle Plaine.
    In the first game, senior Cody Easterday pitched 7 innings striking out 11 and allowed only one walk for the 5 hit 4-0 shut out victory.
    Josh Muckenthaler was 1-3 with a rbi and 2 runs. Jacob Warren was 1-3 with a rbi and a run. Judd Simon was 1-3 with a rbi.
    In game two, the Lions came from behind to score 5 runs in the top of the sixth to earn the 8-4 win.
    “Kids did a great job of not giving up in game two. Great come-from-behind win for us. The 6th inning was capped off by execution of a double squeeze,” said Bluestem head coach Mark Womacks.
    Starter John Stiger pitched three innings striking out 6, allowing one earned run and three hits.
    Nick Saia pitched two innings striking out 3, allowing one earned run and two hits. Cooper Minnik went and inning striking out the side.
    Stiger helped his cause going 2-3 with 2 runs.
    Minnik was 2-3 with 2 runs and a rbi. Easterday went 1-3 with a run and a rbi.
    Muckenthaler went 2-4 with a run and a rbi. Saia was 1-2 with a rbi.
