Augusta High School juniors Michael Cox, Mariah Davis, and Marian George have qualified for State 4A Forensics to be held on May 4, at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka.
Micheal has the distinction of qualifying in four events: prose reading, poetry reading, dramatic interpretation, and impromptu speaking. Michael has received first place at four tournament with his dramatic selection The Laramie Project by Moses Kaufman.
Mariah Davis has qualified in two events: original oration and informative speaking.
Marian George qualified in original oration. Original Oration challenges students to research and compose a speech that changes a listener's attitudes and perceptions about various topics. The tournament season comes to a close on April 6 at Wellington High School. April 19 and 20 Augusta High School is hosting the South Kansas National Forensics League Tournament where contestants compete for nationals to be held in June at Birmingham, Ala.
At 7 p.m. on Monday, April 29th is the Annual Debate/Forensics Night, in the Augusta High School auditorium. Anyone is invited to attend if they are interested in watching some of these very talented forensics students perform their selections.
