  • The Butler County History Center and Kansas Oil Museum has been busy making a lot of upgrades, and several are taking place in the Rolla Clymer Research Library.
The library is home to several volumes of historical books and records, including archival photos, maps, family histories, city directories and school annuals.
Additionally, the library houses books on Kansas and Butler County history, the petroleum industry, and rare and out-of-print books.
A new Genealogy Group is meeting on the last Thursday of every month, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Topics discussed are naming patterns, how to research cemetery plots, researching ancestors and much more.
The library also has a subscription to Ancestry.com available to patrons, funded by the local Susannah French Putney DAR Chapter.
Genealogists are welcome to research family history using genealogical resources which include Federal and Kansas records (microfilm), newspapers from 1870-present, tombstone inscriptions of Butler County, 1885 and 1905 Butler County atlas, county records (not all inclusive) and obituaries.
In addition to the Genealogy Group, the library has recently installed a new microfilm reader, which allows viewers easy and technologically advanced access to all records on microfilm, including capabilities for negatives and slide prints as well.
To learn more information about the Rolla Clymer Research Library and other features of the Butler County History Center/Kansas Oil Museum, the community is invited to their Annual Meeting, held at 6:30 p.m. April 9.
Local author Robert Collins will be speaking about his latest book, “Kansas County Seat Conflicts, The Elections, the Feuds, and the Wars.”
In addition, the History Center is always looking for volunteers to help in the library. Please call if interested.
The Butler County History Center and Kansas Oil Museum is located at 383 E. Central. Hours are 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. For more information, call 321-9333 or visit www.kansasoilmuseum.org or www.facebook.com/kansasoilmuseum.
