Augusta Cub Scout Pack 209 and their families gathered Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church for their annual Pinewood Derby. Over 125 people cheered on the 38 cub-scout entered cars and the 36 cars entered by non-scouts in the “outlaw” category.
The pinewood derby is one of the most popular family activities in Cub Scouts. Scouts make their small wooden cars with help from their families and adult leaders. Then they race the cars for a day of fun-filled competition. The cars are powered by gravity and run down a track.
Pack 209 is a solid part of Augusta’s history. Founded prior to 1980, and chartered through the Knights of Columbus St. James Catholic Church, Pack 209 provides boys in first through fifth grades camaraderie and fun while instilling core life values such as respect, responsibility and honesty.
