Partners in Education Foundation announced a new scholarship – the Jerry Coonrod Family Memorial Fund.
Jerry and his family resided in El Dorado for many years. While living in El Dorado, Jerry was employed by Kansas Gas and Electric Co (now Westar Energy) in the commercial department. He was an active member in the First United Methodist Church and in the community. Their son, Brett is a 1970 graduate of El Dorado High School and also a University of Kansas graduate.
In addition, Jerry and Barbara’s niece, Janan Fairman, is employed at Jefferson Elementary and she and her husband Dan’s daughters, Amy Fairman Hamm and Macy Fairman Cargnel, are also graduates of El Dorado High and the University of Kansas.
The family feels strongly about the value of higher education and that deserving high school graduates should be eligible for scholarships to help defray costs of college. With three of the family graduating from EHS and KU, it seemed fitting to honor Jerry’s memory by establishing a scholarship with PIE for EHS graduates who wish to further their education at the University of Kansas.
