Mr. Steve Lilly, current AMS assistant principal, has been selected to be the next Augusta Middle School principal. Lilly's appointment was approved by the USD 402 Board of Education at its regular meeting March 11. He will assume principal duties July 1, upon the retirement of current AMS Principal Eileen Dreiling. Lilly came to Augusta this year after teaching in special education in the Kansas City area, Andover, and most recently Wichita South High School.
Lilly completed his building leadership certification at Newman University in 2011. Before that, he had earned his master's degree in physical education at Pittsburg State University (1996), certification in special education and business education at Emporia State University (1994), and his bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management from Kansas State University (1992).
A graduate of Osage City High School, he and his wife have three children, ages 8, 7, and 2. He enjoys doing "anything outdoors" and supporting his children's activities.
"I am very excited to be able to continue to work with the students, staff, and parents of Augusta Middle School," says Lilly. I am happy to be at a school where everyone works together for student achievement.
He credits the school and community for making him feel at home, as well as Ms. Dreiling for being a valuable mentor this year.
