My favorite color of M&M is green. Yes, I know the chocolate coated candy tastes the same no matter what color one eats, but I really can't resist the green ones! I gained a new appreciation for all M&Ms after learning about their history. In 1941, Bruce Murrie who was the son of the famed Hershey president was hired by Forrest Mars Sr., founder of the Mars candy factory. Anticipating a chocolate shortage after World War II, Mars knew he needed Hershey's chocolate to produce the candy. Murrie received a 20 percent stake from the newly discovered M&M candy. When chocolate rationing ended, the stake was bought out by Mars. But the candy's name remained M&M for "Mars and Murrie!"
