The El Dorado Police Department will be focusing on teenage drivers in an effort to stress the importance of wearing seatbelts.
From March 11 through 22, the Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Safety and Technology will be hosting a two-week awareness seatbelt enforcement targeting teen drivers and their occupants.
This is important because in 2012, Kansas lost 43 teens in crashes with 74 percent of those teens not property restrained.
To increase awareness, the police will be targeting the area around the high school and issuing citations to those not properly restrained. During these two weeks an officer will patrol around the high school approximately 30 minutes before the start of the day and 30 minutes after school.
