Doral O. Trent, Jr., 77, of Dodge City, died March 5, 2013 at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City. He was born on June 24, 1935 at Dodge City, the son of Doral O. and Thelma V. (Barr) Trent.
Doral grew up in Dodge City and moved with his family to Syracuse. He graduated from Syracuse High School in 1954. After graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War. On Dec. 3, 1966 he was married to Sharon Jones at Dodge City. They were married for 15 years. Mr. Trent was a split saw operator at Hy-Plains Dressed Beef, now known as National Beef, for 28 years. He worked another six years at National Beef in various capacities, including being a refridgeration roundsman. Doral enjoyed bowling, dancing, gardening and his morning coffee club at the south second Presto.
He was a member of the Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W.
Doral is survived by a son, Alan Trent and wife Bonnie of Dodge City; two daughters, Merrill Powers and husband Steven of Spearville and Erin Trent of Dodge City; five grandchildren, Brendon Powers, Danielle Powers, Zane Albrecht, Heather Trent and Holly Trent; two brothers, Gerald Trent and wife Lorine of Dodge City and Danny Trent of El Dorado; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Trent of El Dorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bill Trent and Larry Trent.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Swaim Funeral Home, with Mr. Jeff Hiers presiding. Inurnment will follow at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Ft. Dodge. There will be no public visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Howard Gotschall Post #1714, V.F.W. in care of the funeral home.
