Many people remember reading the “Diary of Anne Frank” in school. Now they can have the opportunity to see it brought to life as the El Dorado High School theatre department presents the production of this story.
“I love this show,” said Katie Banks-Todd, EHS theatre instructor. “It’s a story that needs to be told.
“Even through all the tragedy of the Holocaust, Anne is such a hopeful person and everyone needs to know about her.”
They will present the show at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Banks-Todd said she had 65 students try out for the show, leading her to double cast many of the roles, with different actors on Thursday and Saturday, than Friday and Sunday.
The cast includes Gage Reynolds as Mr. Frank, Shelby Rowell as Anne Frank, Stephen Smith as Mr. Van Daan and, Alli Bieberle as Mrs. Van Daan. Among those double cast, with the Thursday-Saturday cast listed first are: Seth Knowles and Breck Towner as Peter, Allie McKibban and Hannah Fry as Mrs. Frank, Sidnie Davidson and Abby Staats as Margot Frank, Faith Hadley and Marissa Sparks as Miep, Colton Goodon and Jacob Studebaker as Mr. Kraler, and Schyler Taylor and Clay Voisin as Mr. Dussel.
On Friday and Saturday, the cast also will be hosting a chat back following the production, where people can stay and talk to them about the show and that era.
“I think they’ve all really enjoyed the research,” Banks-Todd said.
She said kids come into rehearsals telling her the new things they have learned.
Tickets for the show are $8 for adults and $5 for students.
