Martha Smith, 86, died Monday, March 4, 2013 at Trinty Manor, Dodge City.
She was born April 29, 1926 at Verden, Okla., the daughter of Daniel D. and Lydia Schmidt Koehn. A longtime area resident, moving from Oklahoma, she was a food service supervisor, working at Dodge City Community College, Trinity Hospital and Youthville all in Dodge City.
On November 13, 1946 she married William “Ben” Smith at Cimarron.
Survivors include her husband, Ft. Dodge; six children, Cindy Lopez, Dodge City, Mary Sigley and husband Jim, Lawrence, Gordon Lee Smith and wife Donna, Wichita, Steve Smith, Dodge City, Elaine Jelinek, Wichita and Barbara Cecil, Dodge City; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ruben Koehn; three sisters, Edna Harrison, Erma McReynolds and Willie Mae Lawson; and a granddaughter, Stacy Smith.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Dodge, with Rev. Dick Robbins presiding. Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Ford County Humane Society in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
