  • UPDATE: It may not be a tie after all. The Butler County Clerk's office is waiting for instructions from the Kansas Secretary of State about one of the provisional votes that was not allowed to be counted.
Three of the five provisional ballots were disqualified. One went to Jamie Hubbard to bring her total to 146. One went to Mike Huddleston to make his total 28. One of those that was disqualified is that of Ward 2 Candidate Mark Knowles' wife. Obviously, that vote would break the tie in Knowles' favor.
However, when she filled the paperwork out online, the Clerk's office never received it. Now that Mrs. Knowles provided the paperwork to election officials, the Secretary of State has been asked to determine how the Clerk's office should move forward.

In baseball, a tie goes to the runner. But since both men are running in this case, the decision will be made by a coin flip Tuesday at 9 a.m.
The five provisional ballots in the Ward 2 City Council race in Augusta yielded one additional vote for incumbent Mike Huddleston so the race for second place became a tie at 28-28 between Huddleson and Mark Knowles.
Jamie Hubbard won the primary with 146 votes after the provisional ballots were counted. Tuesday's coin flip will determine who joins Hubbard on the April 2 ballot.
