It was all Tanner Tranbarger, that is, in putting points on the board during the first quarter of Macksville's semi-final game playing against the Victoria Knights. But from then on, it was more of a team effort as the Stangs spread the points around, defeating the Knights 76-55 Friday night at St. John's 1A (div. I) Sub-State semi-final.

As usual, Tranbarger was deadly from outside, making two from beyond the arc while gathering in two baskets driving and twisting through the paint, getting all of Macksville's 10 first quarter points. With the Stangs leading leading 10-5 and 30 seconds left on the clock, the Knights hit a long three, giving the Mustangs a 10-8 lead going into the second quarter.

The Mustangs extended their lead in the second quarter, but this time it was more of a team effort as four Stangs got into the scoring column. Macksville's Adolfo Ibarra lead the way, making three baskets and two free throws. And the three's kept falling as Hugo Flores canned two, three-pointers while Tranbarger got his third 3-pointer and a basket. Clayton Wood made a basket - the score going into the half with the Mustangs leading 31-21.

Macksville out-scored the Knights 21-18 in the third quarter with Jordan Welch getting the hot hand and making the Mustangs first nine points from three, 3-pointers. Tranbarger kept on connecting, making his 4th and 5th 3-pointer, two free throws and one basket. Ibarra also made a basket.

The Stangs went into the final quarter leading 52-39.

Scoring wise, the Mustangs played their best in the fourth quarter, adding 24 points to the score-board while holding the Knights to 16 points. Tranbarger built up his scoring lead, making 11 more points, giving him a game-high 36 points. Welch racked up three baskets while Ibarra made two baskets. Alan Ibarra made Macksville's only 3-pointer in the fourth quarter.

Scoring for Macksville: Tranbarger 36, Welch 15, Ibarra 14, Flores 6, Alan Ibarra 3, Wood 2.

Free Throws: 9-10 for 90 percent - Tranbarger 7, Ibarra 2.

Three point goals:  11 (Tranbarger 5, Welch 3, Flores 2, Alan Ibarra 1).

The Mustangs will play the St. John Tigers this evening in the 1A (Div. I) Championship game. The winner will move on to State which is held in White Auditorium at Emporia.
