Scripture: Mark 7:6 He (Jesus) replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
7 They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.
8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.” (NIV)
Observation: Jesus was here speaking to people who had the talk, but not the walk. To listen to them talk, they were honoring God. But their actions told a different story. They knew all the prayers to pray and scriptures to quote at the appropriate time, but God was not honored in their daily lives. He was not honored in their heart.
Application: When I honor God from my heart, there is not one day in which I honor God more than any other day. (It is just as important to honor God on Wednesday as Saturday or Sunday.) There is not a job or assignment that I do for more God’s glory than any other job or assignment. In serving my boss, or my family, or my customer, or the students on the school bus, I am really serving Jesus.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to honor God from my heart in everything I say and all I do, Amen
