Augusta's wrestling team already has four Orioles who have qualified for next week's state tournament.

Jake Goldenstein (106 pounds), Cory White (138), Quentin Spainhower (160) and Jake Ehrlich (285) all advanced to the championship round of the Orioles' home Class 4A regional tournament Friday in Hutter Gymnasium.

Three other Orioles - Brett Hamilton (145), Jacob Hill (170) and Wright Bosley (182) - made it as far as the championship semifinals before taking losses. They still are alive for a chance to finish in the top four to qualify for State, as are several other Orioles who lost in earlier rounds Friday.

Augusta is second in the team standings of the tough Regional, which features four of the top 10 ranked teams and a few others that have been ranked at one point this season. The Orioles have 99 points, behind only El Dorado's 115. Andale (94.5) is third and Buhler and Mulvane are tied for fourth (76).

Competition resumes Saturday with consolation rounds. Check online for continued coverage, and check Tuesday's Gazette for full stories and results.

-Before the championship round, Augusta will make a presentation to honor former AHS coach Gus Garcia Sr. as the inaugural inductee into the Augusta High School Wrestling Hall of Fame.
