  • The El Dorado Wildcats dropped their fifth game of the season and second loss to league foe McPherson Friday night at Winter homecoming in a 55-31 drubbing by the Bullpups.
"If do not play closer to our capabilities, then we have 20 games plus one. If we play closer to our capability then I believe we have an opportunity to play more than 21 games. I thought tonight was very disappointing and I thought we would have played better and competed better than we did and didn't," said El Dorado head coach Gary Melcher.
Both teams were trying to crack each others’ defenses in the first quarter and the Bullpups earned a 13-7 lead after the first quarter over the Wildcats.
Stern pressure and winning the battle on the boards moved McPherson out in front comfortably in the second quarter as they outscored the Wildcats 20-7 in the second frame and led 33-14 at half time and limited a volatile Wildcat offense to just 14 points.
The Bullpups added to their advantage in the third quarter, outscoring El Dorado once again, this time 13-10 to go 46-24 heading into the final 8 minutes of the game.
El Dorado's big man Jared Haury fouled out midway through the third quarter and El Dorado did not have an answer on the boards for the rest of the contest.
El Dorado was unable to get anything going on the offensive board in the fourth being held to 7 points and for the third time in the game and was closed out by a final score of 55-31.
"There were some things that we thought we could exploit versus them that evidently we didn't prepare well enough to use. There were times during the game where we did what we needed to do defensively and other times when we lost what concentration we had and that part of the floor went away from us. We just didn't have a very good showing," said Melcher.
McPherson converted 21 field goals from the floor meanwhile limiting El Dorado to just 9 makes all night.
El Dorado was led offensively by Travis House and Jared Haury each finishing with 8 points. Johnstone Scott had 7 points and Sam Haines added 5 points in the defeat.

Lady Pups handle El Dorado 52-23
McPherson spoiled Winter Homecoming for the Lady Wildcats cruising to a 52-23 victory over El Dorado Friday night.
The Lady Bullpups held the Wildcats to single digit scoring per quarter throughout the contest to runaway with a blow out win.
McPherson took an early 12-5 lead over the Wildcats and never lost pace in the second quarter scoring 12 more points and holding El Dorado to just 3 points in the second en route to a 24-8 lead at half time over the Wildcats.

McPherson again outscored the Wildcats in the fourth quarter 12-9 in the final 8 minutes to earn the 52-23 victory over league foe El Dorado.
