Mona Evelyn Ellis, 95, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at Lakepoint Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in El Dorado. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery. Mona was born Feb. 10, 1917 to Claude and Bessie (Harmon) Anderson in Bethpage, Mo. She grew up and attended school in rural McDonald County, Mo. Mona was married to Arvid Lee Ellis on Oct. 9, 1937 in Pineville, Mo.; he preceded her in death in 1970. Mona worked at Beech Aircraft during WWII and retired from Century Plastic’s after working there for 10 years. She owned and managed rental homes and apartments, worked for the school lunch program, and as a caregiver, she also worked in the nursery at two local churches, Trinity United Methodist (1965-1979) being one of them. Mona loved children, quilting, gardening and staying active was very important to her. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in El Dorado, the Senior Citizen Center and also volunteered for the Red Cross for 27 years.
Mona is survived by her son-in-law, Wayne Wilson of Wichita; grandchildren, Shane Wilson of Salina and Robin Haskins of Duquesne, Mo.; three great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces’ and nephews. She is preceded in death by two daughters, Judy Ann Wilson and Karen Condell, four sisters and three brothers. A memorial has been established with the First Church of The Nazarene of El Dorado.
