Opal Kropf Lewellen, 93, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013. Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home. A visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Opal was born Nov. 9, 1919 in Chelsea, Kan., the daughter of Arthur Henry and Helen A. Patton Kropf. She attended school in the Benson School and graduated from El Dorado High School with the class of 1938. She had lived in El Dorado, Yates Center and Wichita. During WWII she served her country at Boeing Aircraft. She cooked for the Chelsea Grade School, had a Beauty Shop and worked in Pennys and Dillards stores in the furniture department. She ran the Senior Citizens Center and delivered Meals on Wheels in Yates Center. She loved to bowl, play cards and watch K.U. Basketball and the Kansas City Royals. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.
Survivors include sons, Charles “Woody” Lewellen of El Dorado, Marion Lewellen of Muscogee, Okla., and Craig Lewellen of Spiro, Okla.; daughters, Sharon Elder of Yates Center and Linda Kelley of Wichita; sisters-in-law, Bessie Kropf and Hope Kropf; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by Donnie Elder and Sharon Stout Lewellen; two brothers, Melvin and Junior Kropf; and a sister, Clara Hackler.
