  • Three cows that wandered onto the highway caused a four-vehicle accident, sending two to the hospital Sunday evening.
    The accident occurred at 8:06 p.m. on Highway 254 east of Meadowlark Road, according to the report.
    A 1994 Dodge, driven by Patricia Kiraley, 55, of Wichita; a 2002 Chevrolet driven by Michelle Beneke, 53, of Valley Center; a 2012 Toyota, driven by Victoria Kenton, 59, of Leavenworth; and a 2003 Mercury, driven by Susan Griem, 53, of Benton, were all westbound when they struck the cows.
    Kiraley and Beneke were taken to area hospitals with injuries. Kenton and Griem were not injured.
    Another accident occurred Saturday involving one vehicle in the 8400 block of SW Indianola Road.
    This accident occurred at 10:22 a.m. when a 2008 Chevrolet SUV was northbound on SW Indianola Road. The driver, John Sullivan, 39, of Andover, steered over the edge of the road, then lost control and went into the ditch, striking two trees and rolling before coming to rest on its wheels.
    Sullivan, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was taken to Wesley Medical Center.
