The Augusta Pregnancy Family Resource Center is broadening its visibility in the Butler County community, holding two fund-raising banquets – one in Augusta, the other in El Dorado.
Seating for the Augusta Life is Sweet Banquet is scheduled to begin 6:15 p.m. Monday, March 4 at Point Event Center at 2101 Dearborn St. in the newly renovated building that year ago served as the hospital. LakePoint now owns the building and rents out a community room. Entrance is on the east side of the building under the neon sign, reading Point Event Center.
El Dorado’s event is scheduled to begin seating at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 5 at Hubbard Welcome Center on the Butler Community College campus at 901 S. Haverhill Rd. The new building is across the street from the Star-Vu Drive-in.
“We’re hoping the El Dorado community will take hold of the ministry just like Augusta has,” Liana Guy, executive director of the Augusta PFRC said. “Holding our biggest fund-raiser of the year in El Dorado is a way of showing we want them to feel included.”
Kathy Sparks, president and CEO of Mosaic Pregnancy and Health Centers in Granite City, Ill. will be the featured speaker. Sparks, formerly a nurse at an abortion clinic, now runs a pro life Christian ministry that provides such services as pregnancy and STD testing, ultrasounds, counseling and parenting classes to clients throughout the East St. Louis metro area.
“With her experience in the abortion industry, Kathy has a unique perspective that would be timely for our audience to hear,” Guy said.
Sparks will also be able to “cast a vision” for the PFRC in its mission to open a medical clinic in El Dorado and assist men and women who might be pregnant, Guy said.
The PFRC has acquired a building at 121 W. Central in El Dorado. Work needs to be completed, such as light renovation and flooring, but Guy said “all the pieces are beginning to fall into place” for the center to meet its goal of opening before the end of this year.
“When it opens, we’ll be laser focused on reaching out to women and men who may be pregnant and are considering their options,” Guy said.
Guy is encouraged by the number of registered guests who have signed up to attend the banquets, but there is room for more. Anyone wishing to attend or host a table at either the El Dorado or Augusta event can RSVP by emailing the center at info@PFRCks.org or calling 775-9372.
With underwriting from local churches, businesses and individuals, the PFRC is able to offer reservations and a catered dinner at no cost to event attendees. Anyone interested in underwriting or making a donation can contact Guy at the center’s email or phone number, listed above.
