Two of Augusta’s four middle school basketball teams will play for the Pioneer League tournament championship tonight in Goddard.
The 7th-grade girls team, which was seeded No. 3, defeated Eisenhower 26-11 in the opener, then beat Andover Central 42-31 Saturday morning to advance to the championship game. The Bluejays will face top-seeded Ark City, which had a first-round bye and defeated Valley Center 26-20 to get to the final.
The game will begin at 5 p.m.
Augusta’s 7th-grade boys team advanced to the championship game with a 40-32 victory against Ark City Saturday. The Bluejays are the top seed of their respective bracket and had a first-round bye.
The 7th graders will face No. 2 Goddard, which defeated Haysville 55-5 in the first round and beat Eisenhower 44-40 after two overtimes in the semifinal.
The 8th-grade boys team took a thumping at the hands of No. 2 Andover Central 49-17 to get eliminated Saturday. The Bluejays had defeated Goddard 38-32 in the opener. The 8th-grade girls already had been eliminated by Goddard 33-11 in the first round.
