As the investigation into the shooting over night continued this morning, Cowley County deputies responded to a call for service from a woman who reported an accident near Winfield Lake. Upon interviewing the person, the deputy notified El Dorado investigators he had one of the people being sought for questioning in the shooting incident reported earlier. She was transported to El Dorado for questioning in this matter.
Later that morning, a white male (earlier identified as being present at the scene of the shooting) reported an automobile accident near Atlanta. The description of the vehicle matched that being searched for in connection with this case. The subject was taken into custody for questioning in the investigation and transported to El Dorado. Subsequent aerial search of the region resulted in the discovery of the suspect vehicle apparently abandoned after being driven into a ravine in a rural area near Atlanta. The vehicle will be transported back to El Dorado for processing for possible evidence.
The third party, the black male known to have been with the pair now in custody remains outstanding. He is considered armed and dangerous and is described as a black male, in his late twenties wearing a dark hooded sweat shirt.
Agencies assisting in the investigation include the Wichita Police Department, Augusta Department of Public Safety, the Cowley County Sheriff’s office and a private fixed wing aircraft asset located out of the El Dorado airport.
A correction on the age of the victim is that he is 23 years old.
