Both games were closer than the previous matchups, but Augusta's boys and girls basketball teams lost to Winfield on the road Friday night.

The girls team was down three points with 1:38 left in the fourth quarter. The Orioles created good shots three different times, but couldn't get any of the 3-pointers to fall. Winfield made free throws to clinch a 37-30 win in a low-scoring contest.

Bre Burkett and Casady Marlnee both had six points to lead the Orioles.

In the boys game, Connor Hurst made a 3-pointer in the second quarter to cut Winfield's lead to two at 15-13. The Vikings then went on an 8-0 run to take control.

Every time the Orioles came close to tying or taking the lead, Winfield had the answer. Several times, the answer was Landon Fox, who drained four 3-pointers and scored 15 for the game. Hurst scored on a steal and pass from Chase Winter to get the Orioles within two at 53-51 before Fox nailed a 3-pointer that proved to be the clincher.

Augusta will be off Tuesday and will play Circle at home Friday, Feb. 8 for the Orioles' homecoming night.
