John L. Penney, 98, of Omaha, Neb., and formerly of Augusta, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Ralston United Church of Christ, 7638 Maywood Street, Ralston, Neb.
John was a veteran of World War II and a 40-year career in education (teacher, administrator, counselor and coach) in schools in Nebraska and Kansas. Part of his long career in education was spent in the Augusta school system.
Preceded in death by wife of 70 years, Ella Biere Penney; parents, Clyde and Edith Omer Penney; brothers, Lee, Norman, and Donald; sisters, Louise Larsen and Shirley Baker.
Survived by: sons, Tom (Starr) Penney, Omaha, and Michael Penney, Papillion; grandchildren, Nathan (Analia) Penney, Tampa, Fla., Joseph Penney, Wichita, Andrea (Mark) Karpf, Omaha, and Emily (Paul) Belacera, Overland Park; great-grandchildren, Preston, Adriana, Harrison, and Thomas.
