Augusta USD 402 Superintendent John Black reports a local high school student brought a hand gun to school with the intent to sell it on Thursday.
"The gun was never in the building and never a threat to the students or staff. The matter has been turned over to the police department," Dr. Black advised.
School officials will make an announcement to the student body before they are dismissed this afternoon and there will be an announcement broadcast on the auto calling system.
Captain Bruce Relph with the Augusta Safety Department said there was a student who reportedly had a weapon. However, that gun, which was one of two allegedly stolen from his grandparents' home in Butler County was never brought to the school.
One gun that was stolen from the home was recovered and the other is believed to have already been sold by the student.
