Augusta's girls basketball team has not had much success throughout the past several years when it traveled to Buhler.
Tuesday night's results bucked that trend in a big way. After the game couldn't be decided in regulation, the Orioles held Buhler to 1-of-8 shooting in the overtime period and made free throws to pull away with a 40-33 win.
Casady Marlnee hit 4 of 6 free throws in OT, and Bre Burkett made a key steal and subsequent layup to gain the lead for good for the Orioles.
Both teams struggled shooting from the floor all night. Buhler managed a 9-4 lead after the first quarter.Late in the second quarter, though, Bailey Reichardt scored on a putback and Maddy Leedom scored a second-chance layup to give the Orioles a lead right before halftime.
Augusta led 21-16 before Buhler made a push midway through the third quarter. By the beginning part of the fourth, Buhler led 28-25. That's when Burkett nailed a 3-pointer at the top of the key on a second-chance shot to tie the game.
After Buhler scored again, Taylor Childers made a big offensive rebound and scored the putback to tie the game 30-30 with less than a minute left. Neither team scored before the end of regulation.
For the Orioles, it was their third win of the season. For more, check Thursday's Gazette.
