The 2013 Relay for Life kick-off was held Monday evening in the Wiedemann Building at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital.
This year’s theme is “Cancer is a ‘Beach.’” The El Dorado Relay will be held from 6 p.m. on June 14 through 6 a.m. June 15 at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex. This is the 18th year for the El Dorado Relay.
BG Products, as well as Kirby-Morris and Carlson funeral homes, are underwriting the cost of holding the Relay at the stadium.
There will be activities and entertainment, and organizers hope to have a DJ present throughout the Relay.
For the past three years, the El Dorado Relay has averaged more than 200 participants, and last year had close to 500 luminaria honoring cancer survivors as well as those who lost their lives to the disease. Last year, $79,008 was raised county wide, winning El Dorado and Augusta a per capita fundraising award.
This year’s fundraising goal for El Dorado’s Relay is $57,000.
Volunteers are still needed, and there are available spots on the planning team. Beginning on Feb. 11, there will be several team captain meetings and events leading up to the Relay.
