The Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital Foundation was the recipient of a $7,047 charitable contribution from the Felix Alton Cantrell, Jr. Charitable Trust which will be used to purchase a specific piece of equipment which will benefit many people who visit the hospital.
The mission of Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital is to provide compassionate, professional healthcare to the people it serves. Often, this includes physically or mentally handicapped individuals who either arrive, or are placed, in bariatric wheelchairs for transportation throughout the hospital facility.
SBA will use the monies received to purchase a Dane Wheelchair mover for use at the hospital. The wheelchair mover is an automated tool which will be used to help transport wheelchairs to locations throughout the hospital. Most often, these patients are transported by a Susan B. Allen staff member or Hospital volunteer. There are times when the staff member, or volunteer, is not able to transport these patients without help from others, which may cause the patient to lose a certain sense of dignity. These instances may pose safety issues for both the patient and the staff member which will be resolved with the wheelchair mover.
