In the face of tragedy, high school students from across the state - including at Augusta, Rose Hill, Andover and Andover Central - wore purple to show support for Derby's Braxton Kooser.
Kooser, a freshman student-athlete for the Panthers, was killed in a car accident Saturday morning. Kooser was in a vehicle with three other Derby youth, all of whom were injured.
As the weekend progressed, students from Derby and other area schools used social media networks Facebook and Twitter to unite students from all across the state. Tweets led to trends such as #purpleforBraxton and #BK13, as students from all over gave support.
Even official college team Twitter pages, including Kansas State University, responded. K-State quarterback Colin Klein's account had a tweet for Kooser. K-State, the team for which Kooser cheered, and students from Derby began spreading the word for everyone to wear purple in honor of Kooser's favorite team.
AHS students took part in that at school Monday as dozens of kids wore purple shirts, sweatshirts and even some purple socks with the initials "BK 13" as they wanted to lend support in any way possible.
