  • Augusta's bowling teams have different levels of experience when it comes to their seniors. But as the Orioles honored their seniors Thursday, their triangular didn't exactly go as one would've expected.
The girls team has three seniors, but none of them have extensive experience with the team. But the girls team still managed t breeze by its competition. The Orioles finished with a team score of 2254, beating Hutchinson by 500 pins (1754) and Cheney by 543 pins (1711).
The boys team, on the other hand, has five seasoned seniors who have been with the program since freshman year. This group even bowled together during middle school. But the Orioles had their day spoiled by Cheney, which pieced together four 200-plus games in the final round to steal a win by 95 pins. Cheney finished with a team score of 2564. Augusta scored 2469 to take second place. Hutchinson was last (2093).
Katy Nordman led the charge for the girls team with a 578 series, including a team game-high 215. Cheyenne Brunhoeber was right behind her with a 573 series, which included a 213 game.
Madison Marcotte bowled a 551 series. Bethany Watson bowled a 527 series. Mason Kuether bowled a 487 series and Hannah Trudell had a 450 series.
The boys' loss was surprising considering the huge games turned in by some of the Orioles. Eric Smith had five straight strikes to start Game 2 before finishing with a 210. Kayl Warne topped that with seven straight strikes and finished with a 267. Isaac Gonzalez, Smith and Sam Davis all finished Game 2 with six strikes apiece. Warned finished with 10 strikes.
In Game 3, though, the Orioles couldn't sustain that impressive level. Davis still got five straight strikes, six in all, and finished with a 643 series. Warned finished with a team-high 650 series. Gonzalez just did crack 600 (607) and Smith finished at 567.
Brock Keazer finished with a 497 series with games of 162, 158 and 177.
Despite bowling well, the boys team surprisingly has dropped three duals in four tries after losing to McPherson last Friday and taking a stunning loss to Circle Tuesday.
