Local fire fighters responded at approximately 5:13 p.m. Sunday evening to a structure fire at 102 E. Broadway. Witnesses reported flames shooting high and lots of smoke pouring from a garage near the rear of the house.
"It took us about 20 minutes to get on top of it. The garage is a total loss, but thankfully there were no injuries," Fire Chief Major Ray Marbut reported.
A tree and utility pole were also engulfed by flames, causing disruption in power and cable services for some residents.
Major Marbut also advised that the cause appears to have been a malfunction of a vehicle in the garage, but is still under investigation.
