It seemed like just about everything was going in St. John-Hudson's favor, especially during the first eight minutes of play at St. John Saturday night. The Tigers showed an even balanced attack with five players contributing to St. John's 17-5 point lead, and went on to win the St. John Lions Club Mid-Winter Classic's Championship trophy, defeating the Macksville Mustangs 70-47.

When the points are spread among five players, its hard to key on just one or two players, leaving others open, even though briefly to take their turn. And that's exactly what happened in the first quarter when St. John guard Zuriel Reyes scored a basket and two free throws followed by St. John's two big men, 6'7" Dean Wade and 6'3" Trey Nelson, each canning a 3-pointer. St. John seniors Spencer Nusser and Ethan Long each made two points.

This was all without point guard Kade Kinnamon who didn't suite up due to an injury incurred in the Central Plains game earlier on Friday.

Getting to the finals, St. John defeated the Nickerson Panthers 67-48 on Tuesday, then defeated Central Plains in the semi's 55-40 on Friday.

Wade got 24 points, Nusser made 16 points and Reyes 14 points in the Nickerson win.

Reyes got 20 points and Wade made 16 points , seven rebounds and six blocked shots in the Central Plains game.

Macksville got to the finals by defeating the Larned Indians 62-44 on Thursday and the Pratt Greenbacks 58-53 on Friday.

Macksville's Jorden Welch scored 19 points against Pratt. Tanner Tranbarger scored 17 in the Larned win.

The Pratt Greenbacks defeated Central Plains 59-47 for third place on Saturday, while Nickerson defeated Ness City 56-48 for fifth place. Medicine Lodge defeated Larned 61-54 for seventh place.
