  • Kenneth E. Spring, 93, El Dorado, died Thursday, January 17 at Lakepoint, Augusta. Celebration of his life will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 22 at Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.
    He was born on February 13, 1919 at Bern, Kansas, the son of Earl Charles and Esther C. (Berg) Spring. He graduated from Sabetha, Kansas High School, and received his BA Degree at Kansas State University where he was also a member of ROTC. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving in the South Pacific under General McArthur and then the United States Air Force Reserves for 20 years. He was owner of Spring Printing Company working until he was 84 years old. He was a past member of the Elks Club; Kiwanis; Lions Club; American Legion; VFW. Kenneth was a member of both the First Presbyterian Church and the First Baptist Church. He had served as a Deacon at First Baptist; loved to collect ball point pens and enjoyed model trains and cars.
    He and Betty Joe Childs were married November 30, 1941. She died on August 22, 1964. He later married Phyllis Longhofer Dunson on August 15, 1970 and she also preceded him in death on November 17, 2008.
    Those who survive include his children Kendra Wilkinson; Sharon Decker and husband Rodger; Richard Spring and wife Lesa; Six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Step-children Richard Dunson and wife Roberta; Art Dunson and wife Emma; Carol Furber and husband Jim; Scott Dunson and wife Wendy; 12 step-grandchildren and 9 step-great-grandchildren.
    The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Heart Association. These may be left with Carlson Funeral Home who are in charge of the arrangements. Condolences to the family can be sent to www.carlsoncolonial.com.
