Those who enjoy picking up a bowling ball can take part in a game while helping a good cause in February.
The El Dorado YMCA is hosting a Bowl-a-thon to benefit the Strong Kids program on Feb. 9. There will be two times to bowl, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and from 8 to 10 p.m. at Prairie Bowl.
"We normally are at North Rock, but this year we are hoping to recruit some of our hometown businesses," said Rebecca Debita, YMCA Strong Kids administrator.
This is the first time El Dorado has hosted its own event. The evening will include pizza and give-aways.
They are asking teams, which can consist of up to six people, to raise $600.
"We have about 20 teams right now," Debita said. "Our goal is 30. We're really going to campaign for that."
The bowl-a-thon is open to everyone in the community, regardless of whether they are a Y member or not.
All of the money raised will go toward the El Dorado Y reaching its Strong Kids goal of $148,000 this year.
Strong Kids helps support such programs as the Splash Program, which provides free swimming lessons for six weeks to all second graders in USD 490. Other funds go to help offset the costs of various programs the Y offers, with all of the money raised by this branch staying in El Dorado. The Y also offers financial aid to members through Strong Kids funding.
To sign up, call Debita at the YMCA at 320-9622.
"It should be a lot of fun," she said.
