Augusta's 7th-grade A girls basketball team made its mark in the Pioneer League after beating Ark City 36-21 Monday night. The win clinched at least a share of PL regular-season championship. The Bluejays have an 8-2 record.
Madison Wheeler scored 14 points and Kylie McDaniel added eight for the Bluejays.
The 7th-grade B team continued its undefeated season by beating Ark City 29-11. The Bluejays improved their record to 12-0 on the season and have three more games left this season, including road games against Newton tonight and El Dorado next week.
Ryleigh McLallen outscored Ark City on her own by pouring in a game-high 17 points.
The 8th-grade A team won its second game of the season in a 40-14 blowout against the Bulldogs. Nine different Bluejays scored in the game. Jackie Brandenburg led the team with 10 points. Alexis Brown and Taylor Hinnenkamp both scored six points apiece.
The 8th-grade B team improved its record to 9-3 after smothering Ark City 24-5. Brown led the team with five points. Kristen VanDever and Tayler Patterson added four points apiece.
The Bluejays will play three more sets of games, including the home finale Monday, Jan. 28, before the Pioneer League tournament, which begins Feb. 2. The tournament will be played at Eisenhower Middle School.
