Nina June Parry generously gave her time and energy into taking care of business for her Augusta High School Class of 1941. For many years she performed the duties of president, secretary and treasurer.
Her classmates relied on her to write letters, arrange reunions, pay bills and create agendas for the visiting class members.
Sadly, with Parry’s death last November, not only did her family lose their beloved wife and mother, the community lost a loyal supporter, and her class lost their leader.
“Just before her death, those of us who could, met to discuss what to do with our money since we can no longer continue our reunions. Nina suggested giving it to the May Gruver Scholarship Fund. All the classmates present agreed that it was what we wanted,” explained Nelva Wentz, a member of the AHS Class of 1941.
Nina’s son, Burt Parry, took care of closing the account and Wentz, representing her class, presented a generous check to Priscilla All on behalf of the May Gruver Scholarship Fund.
The other members of the Class of 1941, who were part of the decision to donate to the scholarship are: Don Crowder, Hazel Gruver, Evelyn Jackson, Christine Snyder, and Gerry Schuster.
Wentz stated, “This would not be taking place today if it were not for the work of Nine June Parry.”
