Augusta's girls basketball team was down 12 points at halftime before storming back in the third quarter to take control of Tuesday night's game against El Dorado. Augusta made enough plays and free throws down the stretch to cap a 53-45 victory at Hutter Gymnasium.
The Orioles outscored the Wildcats 17-4 in the third quarter, which included a 3-pointer by Morgan Kirk in the closing seconds to take a 35-34 lead. With the game tied at 38-38, Augusta went on a 7-0 during the fourth quarter to gain control.
El Dorado came within two points after a 3-pointer by Andrea Valadez, but Casady Marlnee later made a quick outlet pass to Kalie Robinson to put the Orioles ahead 48-43, and the Orioles never looked back.
Augusta now has won two straight games after starting the season winless. This is the first win of the season at home.
El Dorado led 30-18 at halftime and had an 18-7 advantage in free throw attempts. But the Orioles were the aggressors in the second half and got to the line several times.
The lady Orioles won't return to action until next week when they compete in the El Dorado home tournament.
