The El Dorado Wildcats wrestling team competed at the Derby Invitational this past weekend and finished 5th out of the 18 team field amongst 5A and 6A school competition.
The Wildcats had two runner up finishers, three fourth place finishers and one sixth place finisher in the two-day tournament.
El Dorado’s two second place finishes came from their #1 and #2 state ranked grapplers in seniors Austin Hughey and Bryce Morgan.
Hughey ranked #1 at 145 lbs. in 4A lost in the championship match to Cody Eastman from Ark City in an 8-2 decision. Hughey is now 11-1 on the season.
Morgan ranked #2 at 126 lbs. in 4A lost in the championship round to Chris Burley of Great Bend in a 5-2 decision. Morgan is now 11-1 on the season.
Freshman Reno Hughey claimed a fourth place finish for the Wildcats falling in the 3rd place match to senior Jeremiah Jones in a 17-0 technical fall in the 113 lbs. division. Hughey is 9-4 this season.
Senior Kyle Macy finished fourth for the Wildcats losing in the third place match in the 132 lbs. divison to Greg Burley of Great Bend in a 4-2 decision. Macy is 8-2 on the season.
Senior Marcus Walker took a fourth place finish for the Wildcats in the 220 lbs division falling in the third place match to Gershom Avalos by fall. Walker is now 8-3 on the season.
Senior Caleb Wallsmith took sixth place falling in the semi-final round for the 3rd place match to Tony Bluml of Valley Center by a fall in the 160 lbs class. Wallsmith is 4-4 this season for El Dorado.
The Wildcats will be back on the mat tonight at home as they host league rival Rose Hill at 6:30 p.m. at Alumni Court.
