  • Recent studies have indicated that Americans are not getting enough sleep. Our lives are too busy with making a living, commitments, going here, going there, and at the end of the day we are exhausted.
So, what are the advantages of taking some time to rest?
First, taking time to rest will keep you healthy. Our bodies let us know when it has had enough and it is time to slow down. Taking care of ourselves is as old as time. The Bible has much to say about this: “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.” (3 John 2).
Second, taking time to rest rejuvenates the ind, body, and the soul of a man. The word “rejuvenate” is defined as the restoring of youthful vigor and activity. Therefore, the opposite of vigor and activity is tired, sluggish and old!
Think about it. We do our best work when we are renewed.
Finally, taking time to rest is wise. The life of Jesus Christ made the greatest contribution to this world - He rescued us from sin. And as important as His work was, He and His apostles took time to rest. For Scripture says, “And he said to them, Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” (Mark 6:31).
We would do well to follow the example of the Son of God.
