  • Mr. Bush, I understand your using the GOP as reasoning for little legislative progress. I too, use the liberals in Congress as a high percentage of the problem. Harry Reid’s refusing to allow bills to be voted on. The President’s budget got a 0-100 vote against in his own Senate. Obama called for a bipartisan “Cliff Deal,” which stated that he will not consider changing his wants. And Speaker Boehner should have stood his ground - agreeing with the Tea Party members.
    -----------------------
Viewer that indicated that John Boehner be impeached - don’t you mean Obama? For heaven sakes, pay attention. I admit that Boehner needs to clean up his act, but Obama is the real headache and more to come. You’ll may see what I mean in a few more months.

Kudos to the railroad for installing the private fence at one of their property corners. It looks great and in keeping with the city’s attempted image. Long over due and now if they would continue with the fencing around the rest of their property, it would be even better. They should be concerned about their image, as the citizens of Augusta indulge then in many ways every day. Thank you BNSF for your efforts.

Too bad Ira T. and Caroline Foster did not invest in their community, Augusta, in the 1900s. If they had, maybe we wouldn’t have the adjoining article on water conservation in Saturday’s Gazette.

Augusta, we need to do some serious house cleaning!!! It’s time to remove a number of City Council people. They are not representing the voters. They are pushing their own agendas. They need to go. This is a criticial issue and the public needs to tell them that enough is enough!
    -----------------------
To the voters of Ward 1 and 2 - it’s time to put someone on the City Council who is reasonable, responsible, mature adults who have no personal vendettas to carry out, which is an embarrassment to the residents of the city and a detriment to the rest of the City Council. It’s time to elect those who are not out for personal reasons, but what’s best for the city.
    -----------------------
I hope not too many witnessed our last City Council meeting. You could almost feel the animosity some of our council people have for our mayor! How embarrassing for them and those who they are supposed to be representing. Sometimes perception IS everything. What are we to perceive from the actions of this meeting? And now they want to show their rude actions and inability to understand what is being discussed, or maybe just not being prepared for the meetings, over the Internet? What is this all about?

Attention everyone! We have five city council members with an agenda and it is not the citizens of Augusta! We ALL need to start paying attention to what is going on in our community! We have a mayor and city manager who work hard for the good of us all! What is the reason for the rudeness at the council meetings? Why would our manager not have his contract renewed? I did not see any reasons for this stated in the paper. Could it be the jealousy-inadequacy of certain members on the council? These members could look into matters of the city and have the knowledge needed to conduct business. Why would they not like a mayor and manager who know and care about what is going on in our community? I have encountered one of the council members on the street several times and he has proceeded to be negative about everything and talk very unkindly about certain leaders in our community. Is this what we want? We need a positive, progressive council! Elections are coming up and we all need to know who we are voting for! Get involved before it is too late to do anything about the negativity about to take over the decisions concerning YOUR community!

I want to commend Bill (Keefer) for fighting for his job. You have the right to have severance pay if they were to fire you at the drop of a hat. For all the other city employees, Kansas is an At Will employment state. Employers can fire an employee for any reason, if they choose, without warning. However, the employee would then have unemployment benefits if such were to happen. Good job, Bill!

As a long-time resident of Augusta, I am ashamed of what is happening to our local government. I can barely bring myself to watch the broadcast of the meetings or read about them in the paper. It just keeps getting worse. What is going on that adults can not behave in a mature and sane fashion? It is an honor and responsiblity to represent the citizens of this fair city. You don’t take your personal agendas into a meeting and you certainly don’t make personal attacks. No one has to like everyone, but leave it at the door. The citizens of Augusta need to get rid of some rotten apples - either by electing new people or recalling those who need to go. And we need to do it now.

Live from Augusta, Kan. - It’s Monday night! Guest host, Madam Mayor, Reavis and Rawlings, and a host of comedians that who love to hear themselves talk.

There’s something wrong when one council person demands to know what type of city government we have and how it all works, AND when another one has had since November to check out the streets needing repairs in his ward.
