Robert Louis "Bob" Simmons, 84, of El Dorado, died Saturday, Jan. 5 at his home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Towanda. Interment will follow in Walnut Valley Memorial Park.
He was born on March 6, 1928 in El Dorado, the son of William A. and Thelma (Stebbins) Simmons. He received his GED and at the age of 16 left school to join the U.S. Marines during World War II. Bob was an accountant and had Bob's Accounting and Tax Service until retiring in 1986. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Towanda ; enjoyed doing woodworking and playing with his grandchildren.
On June 3, 1949 he was married to Barbara Hogoboom at the First Christian Church in El Dorado.
Those who survive including his wife Barbara of the home are: his children, Kay and Rick Burden of rural Leon, Nancy and Bob Smith of El Dorado and Robert D. Simmons of Mentone, Ala.; a brother, Donald Simmons of El Dorado; 11 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
